Fishing Art

Fish

Once upon a time anglers would head out to the lake or river the river, and, when they got a beautiful trophy fish, a taxidermist would create a trophy to take home. Today the stuffed trophy is a thing of the past. I know someone who has had their trophy in a freezer for a year looking for a taxidermist. As it is, many anglers prefer catch-and-release today, and that limits the trophy opportunities to photos taken on the water, or possibly an incredibly expensive sculpture. If you are like me, these photos do not usually do justice to the catch.

So, what are anglers to do?

How about an original painting, a work of art capturing the trophy in all its glory?

Using photos of a catch, I can create an accurate representation of the fish in any of my media. The prices would be based on the size of the piece.

Flies

For many fly anglers, the flies are almost as much a part of the experience as the fish themselves. Many fly tyers make flies that will never touch the water, they are made as display pieces.
Paintings of flies are also popular for the same reason, many of the flies we use to fish are also quite beautiful.

I am currently working on watercolors of the Blacker 15, flies described in William Blacker's book The Art of Fly Making published in 1855.

Do you have a favorite fly? I can paint it for you.

This is the perfect gift for the angler on your list.

I have completed Blacker's 15, and will be working on flies by Charles Orvis and  Major John Trahane.

William Blacker's 15

In1855, William Blacker published a book on fly tying, The Art of Fly Making. In his book, Blacker described 15 flies that have taken their place in fly fishing lore. Many tyers have tried their hand at tying these beutiful flies.

Each watercolor painting is about 8x10". Prints can be made in various sizes.

The poster shows all 15 with the part of the title page from the book. The poster is available in sizes from 12x18" to 24x36".
