Traditional watercolor is transparent, using no white in the paintinting. This means the light comes from the white of the paper.

Casien, ewhile not watercolor, is a waterbased media. That is why I have included them here. Casien paints are considered opaque and use a milk protein as a binder where watercolor uses glycerine.  This media offers many of the best parts of watercolor and oil paints.
